Beware IRS Scam

Notice to Wentworth residents,

The Wentworth Police Department has received several reports of residents receiving calls from someone claiming to be from the IRS. The caller explains to the person that he or she is calling that there they are in trouble with the IRS and if they do not take care of the problem then there will be, or, already has been, an arrest warrant issued for their arrest.

This is a typical scam used by criminals in an attempt to solicit monies, as well as personal information such as date of births, social security numbers, and or account numbers.

Please note that the IRS does NOT contact people by phone, their correspondence is done via the U.S. Mail, or, in person.

The Wentworth Police Department is urging it's residents not to give out any information over the phone to anyone claiming to be part of the IRS and looking to obtain any personal information.

If you have any questions and or concerns, regarding the validity of any organization who has attempted to solicit information from you, please contact the Better Business Bureau, or, the Wentworth Police Department and we will help you with your concerns.
