New Holiday Scam "AMAZON"

New Holiday "AMAZON" Phone Scam

Dear Wentworth Residents,

"Tis the season", for holiday scams, and I am hoping to get the word out about a new type of phone scam. Please be aware of persons calling stating that they are with AMAZON. They will then ask if you made a purchase, or authorized a purchase, on AMAZON today. They will then tell you that the purchased item was shipped to another country, like Africa, or Russia, or some other distant location. They may even tell you what the item was and what the cost was.

When you answer that you did not they will ask you to go to your computer so that they can assist you with stopping this unauthorized charge and prevent any future unauthorized charges.

"DO NOT DO THIS"

These people are not associated with AMAZON and are looking to access your computer information remotely. Their goal is to obtain any personal information that they can from you. Please be diligent during this holiday season in guarding your personal information, banking information, and the files in your computer. These people can be very convincing, but, make no mistake, they are criminals.

Thank you, and in closing, the members of the Wentworth Police Department want to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

New Mail Scam

Dear Wentworth Residents,

Please be aware of a new type of mail scam that has surfaced in the Wentworth area. The scam consists of a Wentworth resident, property owner, or business owner, receiving a piece of mail that is titled "Loan Information Enclosed-Time Sensitive".

On the outside of the envelope in the upper left hand corner it will say, Administrative Offices 2018 Wentworth, NH 03282-3503. This will come as presorted first class mail but it is a scam so please do not respond to it.

Inside is what looks to be a check, made out to the person the letter is addressed to, and it will say it is from "Pinnacle Lending Funds Disbursement Center". There will be a toll free number listed with a dead line for when you are asked to return a call.

Once again this IS A SCAM, so please do not respond to them in any way. If you have any questions regarding anything that you receive either by mail, or, by phone message, please do not hesitate in contacting your police department.

Thank You,

Chief Wallace Trott

Spring is here, and so are the bears

Dear Wentworth Residents and Property Owners,

I think we are all in agreement that spring is finally here and is a welcomed event. It has been a long winter for us, and, for some of our wildlife as well.

We have already been notified that the spring black bears are out and are looking for food. This is just a reminder to please keep in mind that although they are cute, they are still wild animals, and need to be given their space.

Please take the necessary precautions regarding your bird feeders, trash, and dumpsters and hopefully this spring transition with our black furry friends will be an uneventful one.

Scam Alert-Domain Listings

Dear Wentworth Residents and Business Owners,

Please beware of a new scam that is being sent out to people and businesses via the U.S. Mail. The scam is a letter purporting that they are from a business called "Domain Listings" located and or based out of Las Vegas Nevada.

The company tries to lead people to believe that they are a web based company that offers a person, and or a company, the ability to be listed on a internet directory which would enhance the opportunity for wider exposure for their business and or services.

THIS IS A SCAM
THIS IS NOT A LEGITIMATE BUSINESS

Please do not respond to this company. They are not listed with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the BBB has received numerous complaints on them and this scam.

Thank You

Beware IRS Scam

Notice to Wentworth residents,

The Wentworth Police Department has received several reports of residents receiving calls from someone claiming to be from the IRS. The caller explains to the person that he or she is calling that there they are in trouble with the IRS and if they do not take care of the problem then there will be, or, already has been, an arrest warrant issued for their arrest.

This is a typical scam used by criminals in an attempt to solicit monies, as well as personal information such as date of births, social security numbers, and or account numbers.

Please note that the IRS does NOT contact people by phone, their correspondence is done via the U.S. Mail, or, in person.

The Wentworth Police Department is urging it's residents not to give out any information over the phone to anyone claiming to be part of the IRS and looking to obtain any personal information.

If you have any questions and or concerns, regarding the validity of any organization who has attempted to solicit information from you, please contact the Better Business Bureau, or, the Wentworth Police Department and we will help you with your concerns.
